Your Self-Publishing Questions Answered (#41-42)

Self-Publishing Question #41 of 52: Should I hire an expert to write my book title?

The title of your book must make an immediate and positive impression upon the prospective book buyer. It must quickly get to the heart of your book’s message; the buyer should understand right away what your book is about. A marketing expert can help you create just such a title. Provide the expert with as much information as you can about your book, including a synopsis of your book (or the entire manuscript), and the intended audience and market. Based on this information, the marketing expert will evaluate the strength and appeal of your book title, and will create alternative titles that drill right down to a message that book buyers will understand.

Self-Publishing Question #42 of 52: How can I be prepared to market my book on a moment’s notice?

Always be on the lookout for opportunities to tell people about your book! As an author, you need to always have your marketing hat on your head and look for opportunities to sell your book. Carry postcards that feature your book cover and ordering information with you at all times. Have business cards printed with the same information if these are more convenient for you to carry. Make sure your website is featured on your promotional material. Tell people about your book; don’t be shy! People are usually genuinely interested to hear about someone who has written a book. Finally, be sure to have copies of your book handy either to sell or give away.
